It’s Monday, January 12! What Are You Reading?

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on some new content and on fixing my writing “voice” so that I sound more like myself, and so today I’d like to try linking up with Sheila at Book Journey on this fun little meme! This is going to be a fairly simple post, once a week (obviously!), and I hope I can keep it up. Fingers crossed!

So anyway, how was your weekend? I celebrated my 33rd birthday yesterday! I didn’t go out drinking or do anything crazy, but then, that’s not really my style. Call me a party pooper, but I’ve never had a taste for alcohol. Instead, Hubs and I went out for chicken wings, followed by a long-awaited trip to IKEA for a new bookcase (my third! Yay!), a stop at Barnes and Noble to spend a gift card (BIG yay for two more Gregory Maguire titles! I smell an Oz-themed review month in my future!), a toy store visit to pick up a few little surprises for Joshua, and two quick stops to pick up pizza and ice cream (Cold Stone birthday cake remix, what else?) on the way home. It was a wonderful birthday, and I’d like to thank everyone who sent love and well wishes on social media.

Now…as to what I’m reading! Well, last week I finished Prince Lestat by Anne Rice — the review should be live by the end of this week — and I immediately followed that up with cracking open this baby right here!

I’m reading The Poisonwood Bible for the Travel the World in Books readalong with Mom’s Small Victories, I’m Lost in Books, and Savvy Working Gal. The book started very, very slowly for me, but now the story is getting really interesting, and as a result my pace is picking up. Once I’m done reading I’ll be sure to share my thoughts! Have you read The Poisonwood Bible? What did you think?

So there you have it!

It’s Monday. What are you reading?

  • So many people have recommended “The Poisonwood Bible” to me that I probably should get around to reading it sometime soon!

Hi Melinda! As I said, it might be a bit slow to get into but once you get through the first 50-100 pages it really picks up the pace. It’s a great book and will make you think about your relationships with your family!

  • The Poisonwood Bible has been on my “someday” list for years. The problem is that there are so many other books on that list too. I hope you enjoy it. Happy reading!

  • Sounds like a perfect birthday to me! I read Wicked with my book club and want to read the rest of the series too. Which titles did you get? So glad Poisonwood picked up for you. It really did for me in Book 3 and now I have a little over 100 pages left. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the next book when you get done with it.

Hi, Tanya! Wicked is a fabulous book, and the Broadway show is amazing. (Did you know they’re working on turning it into a movie?) I picked up Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Out of Oz yesterday…I think Confessions is a standalone book but Out of Oz is the last in a series (following Wicked, Son of a Witch, and A Lion Among Men), so I may dedicate a month to that series sometime this year, though I don’t know when yet. And thank you for choosing Poisonwood, it’s turned out much better than I’d thought it would when I started reading! I’m dying to know how it ends!

Hi Kathy, my “someday” list is never-ending too…so I know exactly how you feel! I do hope you can eventually get to it though, it’s definitely worth the time!
