Author Adriana Trigiani on Good Talk, Dad: The Birds and the Bees…and Other Conversations We Forgot to Have, by Bill Geist and Willie Geist

This wonderful book, a collection of observations and memories from Bill Geist, a great American humorist/journalist and his son, Willie, a wonderful journalist/anchor/writer at NBC’s Today Show, proves the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.

This was my Father’s Day gift to all the men in my life this year, and now, it’s the daddy shower gift for dads to be. Every story in the book rings with hilarity and truth- but there are poignant moments that readers will relate to and embrace.

You will read about Willie’s christening at age 19 (his parents forgot to baptize him), and Bill’s dilemma when he received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease- it’s all here, father and son dynamics, lots of sports, the father and son sex talk (Bill was afraid Willie might know more than he did). The classic American moments, learning how to drive, how to deal with the opposite sex and how to parent will make you laugh with recognition and give you insight into the philosophy that no one does it all right, we do the best we can.

I loved Good Talk, Dad because it’s about a father and son who love each other, are there for one another, and have the depth and talent to write about their feelings in a way that makes the reader feel part of a fabulous party that you hope will never end.

  • Father’s Day…done. What a wonderful find. Adriana, I met you at an event you did years ago with John Searles. I was just trying to get published then–and it would take years more–but it’s very nice to find you part of 30 Authors. It feels a little like a circle for me.

I’m planning to give this book to my husband for Father’s Day next year, too — we have a son and I think he’ll be able to relate!

  • This book sound so interesting because I know WHO the authors are but nothing about them, which always makes for a good time 🙂 Thank you so much for joining in the tour (twice)!
