On January 1, I wrote a post sharing my goals for the year. One of those goals, #2, was to help The Hubby pay for a short family vacation this year.
One week from today, that goal becomes a reality!
This time next week, we’ll be packing up the car and heading to Washington, D.C., to check out the cherry blossoms.

A week from tomorrow, Joshua will be riding a real, live steam engine for the first time in Busch Gardens.

Joshua has been waiting for months to go on rides again, and our vacation is essentially the kickoff to his summer — Busch Gardens is already open for the year, and our local Six Flags park will be open for the year the weekend we come back from Virginia! I have a membership pass so I’ll be able to take him whenever he wants to go, as long as it’s not a babysitting or Zen day. I know I’m just as excited as he is…he’s only been talking about “rides open soon” all winter.
I know I’ll be able to come back with a ton of pictures for all of you because The Hubby is snap-happy when it comes to cameras. Despite our camera being a weak little point-and-shoot, he gets some really amazing shots. I hope we come home with pictures of Joshua ringing the bell on the steam engine; a screen saver-worthy shot of the cherry blossoms; and some sweet family selfies. Whatever we come home with, I know we’ll have good memories and that’s what’s most important.
The only thing I’m worried about is the PCOS diet. I know I’m supposed to go low-carb, low-sugar, high-protein, and I’m normally okay with that. However, this is a vacation; while I’ll try to eat well whenever I can, I’m going with the knowledge that I won’t be able to be 100% “good” all the time — I’m spending a week in a theme park, after all, and there are only so many healthy food choices to work with in theme parks. I’m okay with letting go a bit for the week and really getting to enjoy myself. I have to be; I don’t think I really have much of a choice in the matter. If we venture out to a restaurant outside the park, I will definitely seek out a healthier meal option. But for this week in general, it’s all about relaxing. I’m not going to focus too much on what I’m eating, because I know I’ll have to be all-in, full-force, 100% game-on when we come home and start PCOS treatment.
So the countdown begins: T minus one week until vacation time!!! I’ll be back on Wednesday to talk about how we’re planning to pack to accommodate Joshua (who has never been on an overnight trip like this before). That in itself promises to be an adventure!
