Their Golden Moment?

Happy Monday! It’s a big one in Sochi, Russia, where the Olympics are taking place — history could be made today for the U.S. figure skating team.

Who am I talking about? These two right here:

Four years ago in Vancouver, Meryl Davis and Charlie White came away from the ice dancing competition with silver medals (and well-deserved ones at that). Silver, of course, means there’s room for improvement. It means there’s a team that’s better than you. It means that, if you want the gold medal badly enough, you’ll go home and skate your tails off until you know you’ve done everything you can to earn it. Meryl and Charlie have done just that and now the gold medal is theirs to claim, if they can skate a perfect program to “Scheherazade” this afternoon. They’ve done just that so many times before today, and I’m truly hoping they’ve got one more in them. They have the hope and support of a nation behind them, and we all hope they can bring home the gold! (No pressure, guys.)

That being said, I’m equally excited to see the dance teams of Madison Chock and Evan Bates and Maia and Alex Shibutani! Chock and Bates have a Les Miserables medley planned, while the “Shib Sibs” are skating to the music of Michael Jackson. It would be amazing to see them on the podium as well, but both teams are younger than Davis and White (both in age and length of partnerships) and they could reasonably push for Pyeongchang in 2018!

So here’s Madison Chock and Evan Bates!

And here’s the Shib Sibs!

Best of luck to all of them — I’ll be watching the live-stream on my laptop. Go Team USA!!!
