Joshua’s Bookshelf!: You Are My Cupcake, by Joyce Wan

[This review is based on the board book edition published by the Cartwheel Books imprint of Scholastic, Inc. in 2011.]

So what’s it about?
You Are My Cupcake is a children’s board book consisting of various sweet messages of love for your little one! To give you an example…

And the book ends with “Baby, I could just eat you up!” (Because honestly, who wouldn’t want to chew on chubby babies?!)

What did we think of the book?
This is hands-down Joshua’s favorite book, and my favorite baby book! The illustrations are beyond adorable and colorful without being overwhelming — the colors aren’t so bright that I feel the need to wear sunglasses while reading the book. Joshua likes pointing out all the colors and naming the objects on each page. He’s even starting to spell all the words on each page, and he’s recognizing a few sight words! Best of all, it gave me a whole new selection of terms of endearment for my favorite little boy! What’s not to love?

Would we add it to Joshua’s bookshelf?
It’s been on his bookshelf since before he was born — I picked it up on a shopping trip at Babies R Us with my mom while I was still pregnant with Joshua — and I’ve been reading it to him since I brought it home. You Are My Cupcake holds very deep significance for us so as far as I’m concerned, it’ll be on his bookshelf for the rest of his life! We LOVE this book!!
