Today is the closest we’ve been to normal in a week and a half! Joshua still sits with me on the couch and watches his cartoons, but he’s getting up to play (and does so with much more energy) more than he’s been since January 20. We’ve been slacking in the learning department, but cuddles and rest time are way more important for my little guy right now than practicing ABC’s and 123’s. He’s learning lowercase letters from “Super Why!” and colors from playing with his bath crayons in the shower, and I think we’ll be ready to push beyond 10 once he’s completely better (as he’s finally stopped saying, “1, 2, 9, 10!” and has reverted back to counting from 1 to 10 correctly).
So here Joshua was on the 22nd (the first time I photographed him, roughly 18 hours after he came down with his cold). The burning, red cheeks are obvious. He’d gone into full-blown “hold me, mama, I’m sick” mode by that point.
And this was taken yesterday. Doesn’t he look so much better?? He really has been much more himself the last two days or so!
Of course, as hard as I tried, I didn’t emerge from his sick period completely unscathed. Fortunately, my only real issue has been my throat — a few days ago I was coughing, and now it just feels scratchy and raw. I’d say I’m trying not to talk too much, but I’m the stay-at-home parent to a two-year-old (translated: yeah, right). My best friend Becca at Glow by Beauty Gala created an all-natural sore throat remedy that I’m going to try (as gross as it sounds), because I trust her and she knows what she’s talking about. She’s used this mixture before and it helped her, so who am I to refuse it? On top of that, I’ll keep chugging the warm fluids (can we say tea with honey and lemon?) and sucking on cough drops. I already tried OTC medication and it didn’t help me, so I’m moving away from that stuff.
(Oh, and did I mention that The Hubby has managed to avoid getting sick altogether?! Lucky!! But then he’s been outside every day to go to work, and between the illness, cold weather, snow, and lack of a car — Hubs’ is in the shop so he’s using mine — we haven’t been out of the house lately. I can’t wait until spring. I want to open all the windows and evict every germ in the house!)
Go away, sore throat! I want my healthier, happier home back!
