Three Weeks to Two — Lots of Learning to Do!

Three weeks from today, my little guy will be two years old! I can’t get over how quickly the time is going by…and I can’t believe it was just over a week ago that I mentioned his birthday was a month away!

There’s still so much to do to prepare for Joshua’s party, but now I’m looking beyond that as well. I’m so proud to say that Joshua knows nearly the whole uppercase alphabet (only the letter L eludes him now), and that he’s starting to pick up lowercase letters as well! He also has the numbers 2, 5, and 9, and thanks to his shape-sorting basket, his colors and shapes are starting to come together, too. I think we’re ready to push a little further to really make learning a reality!

The Hubby and I recently made a very big decision: Joshua Bear will be staying at home with me until he’s ready for pre-kindergarten at age 4. As a former preschool teacher, I understand how developmentally-appropriate lesson planning works, what kinds of activities I can design and which supplies I’ll need to keep Joshua steadily learning in an at-home environment. Purchasing those supplies and finding the time to plan lessons, however, is a whole other animal.

So to supplement my lessons, I’m going to be signing Joshua up with ABCmouse. The site is mainly geared to preschoolers between the ages of 3 and 6, but there is a section of the site called “Toddler Time” which focuses on activities and concepts for two-year-olds. You can sign up for $7.95 a month, or $79 for a full year. They also have a current special where you can try it out FREE for 30 days!

I personally can’t wait to get started on this learning adventure with Joshua! Once we’re all signed up and ready to go, I’ll definitely share our experiences. I hope the site will provide the kickstart I’m looking for!

  • I cannot believe that Joshua will be 2 (I cannot believe that Lacie is already 2). We are not sending Lacie to any “preschool” program either. I believe that she learns so much being home with me. Just this morning, on an errand to Target, we were talking colors, numbers, letters. Her whole life is a learning experience!!! Enjoy celebrating Joshua’s second birthday!

I know! We’re so lucky to get to stay at home and teach our children as we see fit. Joshua LOVES Target – we’re going tomorrow to get party supplies, and Joshua will probably spend the trip pointing out letters he sees and helping to put things in the shopping cart!
