Welcome Home!

Hello, friends! Welcome to Read-at-Home Mama! Thanks for joining me on this crazy journey of stay-at-home mommyhood!

I’ve been building up to re-entering the blogosphere for a long time now, and it’s finally become a reality. I finally feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be! It’s crazy to think that just a few years ago, my life was the polar opposite of where I find myself today: married but childless (furbaby notwithstanding), working full-time in a career I really wasn’t comfortable with or felt sure I actually belonged in; allowing my health to go straight to hell in a handbasket and feeling no desire whatsoever to change that.

And now?

Now I am the mama of an incredibly sweet, funny, and precocious toddler whom I was sure I’d never even get to have.

Now I am a stay-at-home mom, which I never thought could be as ridiculously busy or as rewarding as it’s turned out to be.

Now I am still overweight, sadly, but recently made the joint decision with The Hubby to finally take control of our diets and our bodies and, therefore, our lives. Since we’re trying for a second child, weight loss currently isn’t a huge priority for me — but eating healthier, taking better care of my body, and making a more concerted effort to exercise more certainly are! I feel like what’s most important in this respect is that I’m not only making these changes for myself. It’s equally as important for me to be a positive role model for my little boy — monkey see, monkey do, right? (So I hope. Fingers crossed!)

So why “Read-at-Home Mama”?

Because before I became a mom, before I got married…hell, before I entered kindergarten!….I was a total bookworm. That and dancing are the two things that have stuck with me throughout my life so far. I very much doubt you’ll ever see me dancing here, but as a constant reader, I’ll be talking about books A LOT. Novels I’ve read, nonfiction, children’s books that my little guy loves…you name it. Roughly once a week I’ll try to put up a review of a book I’ve just read, or of a book that Joshua Bear loves, and link you to where you can check it out for yourself. As I share reviews, I’ll archive them in the “On My Bookshelf” tab above.

Of course, the name “Read-at-Home Mama” actually carries several other connotations for me aside from the reading! As a stay-at-home parent, I’ll blog about things I do around the house. It’s incidentally going to be a very exciting year around here — not only are Joshua Bear’s birthday and the holiday season on their way, but The Hubby and I are also planning to do some major remodeling to our house starting early next year! I’ll share pictures and products we use as we go through each room of our little house, but I’m not stopping there. I’m a big fan of Pinterest and, as such, will blog about recipes I’ve made from there as well as little projects I’m doing around the house (including organizational things, which God knows we need lots of, as well as fun DIY stuff). And then of course, I’m Joshua Bear’s first teacher as well as his mama! If I find an idea that I think might help him to learn a new skill, I’ll share it here; if we test out a new product on the market, that’ll probably pop up here, too.

So welcome to our little life! It’s going to be a wild ride, but an enjoyable one as well. Make yourself at home!
